How I Work

Working with me isn't about being "fixed", told what to do, or squeezed into a rigid programme. It's about understanding what's really going on, finding what helps, and building things up gently - because ADHD doesn't show up the same way for everyone, and support shouldn't either.

The discovery call

We'll always start with a free 20-30 minute discovery call. This is a chance for us to:

  • Meet and get a feel for one another
  • Talk about what's going on right now
  • Explore what you'd like support with
  • See whether coaching feels like the right fit

There's no pressure and no obligation. Sometimes people leave this call simply feeling clearer - and that's okay too.

Coaching a teen or young person? I'll always meet them too.

If you're reaching out because you'd like me to coach your teen, we'll start with a discovery call for you as the parent, and then I'll always have a separate discovery call with your young person before any coaching begins.

This matters. Coaching only works when the young person is willing to show up as themselves. Meeting me first lets them decide whether they want to work with me, ask questions, and get a sense of what sessions will be like - without you in the room and without any obligation.

If they say yes, we go ahead. If they say no, or not yet, that's also a completely valid answer, and we'll talk about what might help instead. Coaching should always feel like the young person's choice, not something being done to them.

A flexible, tailored approach

My coaching is not one-size-fits-all. We start with an initial block of around 6 hours of coaching - how that's divided up depends entirely on what works for the person I'm working with. Session length, frequency, and format will all vary. As a general guide:

For many young people, the initial block naturally leads into an ongoing arrangement - not because they're locked in, but because life keeps changing and consistent support makes a difference. You can pause or end coaching at any time.

For children under 10, I find it's more productive to work with the parents rather than the child directly, although there may be sessions where both are included.

This is something we'll talk through in the discovery call. Nothing is fixed or locked in. We'll always decide together what feels helpful, and we'll review things as we go.

My coaching style

I adapt my style depending on what's needed in the moment. Sometimes, the most powerful thing is space - to think out loud, make sense of feelings, and develop insight. At other times, structure and practical strategies are what really help.

That means I may:

  • Ask thoughtful questions and reflect back what I'm hearing
  • Help you or your child understand how an ADHD brain works
  • Share tools, strategies, or frameworks when they're useful
  • Offer gentle guidance when things feel overwhelming or stuck

I'll often check in with what you want: "Do you want ideas, or do you want space to explore this?"

You're always at the centre of the process. I'm here to support, guide, and walk alongside you - not to take over.

How sessions usually unfold

While everything is tailored, many people find it helpful to know there's a loose structure. As a rough guide, coaching often follows this flow:

1

Getting clear

We identify motivating goals and/or a sense of purpose. This creates a client-focused starting point and a framework for our work together.

2–4

Deep dive

This is where we do the core coaching work. We'll focus on exploring challenges in more depth, identifying and overcoming obstacles, building habits of doing and thinking, and supporting progress in a way that feels realistic.

5

Review

We pause to reflect. We'll look at what's changed, what's working, and what still feels tricky, and assess what's needed next.

6

Next steps

We look forward - assessing growth, celebrating wins, and creating a sustainable way forward. If further sessions would be helpful, we can discuss that too.

What you can expect from me

My approach is calm, non-judgemental, and ADHD-affirming. I believe you (and your child) are doing the best you can with the tools you have right now.

My role is to help you build understanding, confidence, and strategies that actually fit real life - not add more pressure or expectation.
